Red Clover Benefits

Red clover is the state flower of Vermont.

The FLOWERS should be gathered in perfect bloom, and if desired, dried and packed for use later. The taste and odor is agreeable.

Red clover is very useful in spasmodic, bronchial, and whooping coughs, usually by infusion.

The warm infusion is soothing to the nerves and is mildly laxative to the bowels. The hot infusion influences the circulation to a good capillary distribution.

A good compound alterative is made by combining red clover, burdock, yellow parilla each 1 oz., and 1/2 oz. mullein. Simmer in 2 quarts water down to 1 quart. Strain and take a wine-glassful 3 or 4 times daily.

Red clover has quite an old reputation as a wash for scaly skins and the solid extract is a highly recommended application for indolent ulcers. It promotes healthy granulation.

The infusion of 1 oz. to 1 pt. boiling water may be used freely.
